Building your social space
So it's finally happend! Middle age has well and truly set in.
It's time to build my own man cave (some men prefer sheds) this will be more like a batcave! (minus the bats).
I’m going to go for an obvious metaphor here and compare building my new garden office the same way we approach building on social.
PLANS (strategy)
What are you building and who does it serve? More importantly who are you and how do you help them (and how is your personality reflected in that digital/ real space). Just like planning your building you wouldn't start work without a plan. So ask these questions early. Yes they might evolve once you start producing content. But having a clear and concise (and yes niche) direction of travel will help you build something beautiful!
GROUND WORKS (personal brand)
Next comes the real work. Digging the foundations and getting the base to build on in. This is why it’s important to align the inner you (your core value sets, something we run through with every client) and the outer you (your personal philosophy or brand).
Then get attacking that profile so it works HARD for you when you’re not online!
Some pointers are
- Make sure all of your LinkedIn profile sections are filled in.
- Think about your personal brand colour palette and your banner (make sure there is alignment with everything on the page).
- Make the most out of multimedia and add rich content on your profile such as videos and presentations and add them to your featured section. Maybe even through in the odd gif to attract attention.
- Aim to increase your endorsements and recommendations. Social proof is everything.
- Publish long-form posts (articles) natively on LinkedIn.
GET THE BUILDERS IN (search for the right people)
Finding the right people and pulling the right people towards you is just as important as selecting the right builders for your job. Building that all important trust through your (and theirs) content.
START THE BUILD (content)
Now you’re ready to begin building, what materials are you going to use? Bricks, wood, plastic? (video, short form posts, newsletters) and how does each piece of content help build onto the next?
Think of the seasons and how each season affects the space you’ll be in. What stage of their buying journey are your prospects on? Making sure we have a content plan in place that speaks to them at every stage will ensure long term success and a building that stands the test of time whatever the weather!
ENJOY THE SPACE (sales)
Now you have built out all these components, it’s time to turn all this noise, attention and conversation into sales. Now you own your (digital) space and it’s tailored just the way you envisioned.
Some lovely pictures on the wall, you get regular friends over to visit now and again, maybe even throw a party!
And people WANT to be part of that space and hang out, resulting in much shorter and easier sales cycles.
Time to put your feet up and enjoy a beer or two!
